If there is a severe emrgency that shuts down everything how does a person get their needed medication? Most people fill prescriptions monthly and that’s all they are allowed to have until their next refill. If the emergency lasts more than a month what will people do? Die? Be sick?
I don’t take anything that I need to survive but what will the people do that do need their medications?
Thanks.
Chosen Answer:
People can buy many medications in 90-day supplies.
As to preparing: Whenever a hurricane is expected, one of the things people are told is to make sure they’ve stocked up on their prescription medications. People who take insulin often have generators so they can keep it cold in case the power goes out. Meds are one of the first things placed into an emergency preparedness kit.
But if it were a sudden emergency – like a flash flood that wipes out roads and bridges – and you’re suddenly without, you don’t have a chance to prepare. I know that in flooded towns, emergency personnel go through in boats to see if people need anything, are all right, need help or evacuation to a hospital … you might look at the FEMA website for more answers. Sometimes the National Guard is called in. Another website to visit for answers.
As I mentioned, people can buy many medications in 90-day supplies. But that won’t help if you’re down to your last 2 weeks and a tornado or earthquake suddenly hits and wipes out services. Interesting question.
I’ll come back to read others’ responses.
